Hello,

We have just had agreement made today for a referral for a special need pushchair via the Wheelchair Service, I am so grateful as our little one is not so little now and I am struggling to take her in public spaces currently....

Can anybody who has been referred please give me an idea of how long it took from being referred to actually receiving one? I am just trying to figure out if I should buy a bigger buggy for now cheaply ....

Would be very grateful for any responses.

It will be something that varies from area to area.

Where I am if a child can walk they won’t be accepted by wcs so we self funded and then his OT helped with a charity referral to get one.

It will depend on need and adaptions. If you need a basic but just larger “normal” buggy then these are cheaper. If you need more sprecisst seating and strappings then costs more and may have to be approved by funding board locally.

You could ask why local guidelines are. Assements normal done on a waiting list may take 6-12 weeks where I am

As a PP has said it depends where you are, as waiting times will vary across the country, and also depends on what you end up getting.

I think we waited a few months for the first appointment, and initially had a Maclaren Major which came pretty quickly (I think a week or two) and then a couple of years later changed to an Action 3 Junior Wheelchair which took slightly longer to arrive, maybe 6-7 weeks (can't quite remember).
