Have had a very stressful time trying to get DD to take calpol, it took both myself and DH to hold her down and she got herself in a right state and spat most of it out, i have several injuries, she has a high temperature and is not able to tell us whats wrong or if anywhere hurts.

it is so hard, she has autism and is not really able to understand stuff, she is almost 13, so quite big to hold down, plus i had to send her twin sister upstairs out of the way cos she would have joined in too.

Have you tried those special dummies where the syringe connects to the dummy and you can inject the medicine into the dummy and they can suck it out? Worked a treat with DS but I don't know how old your LO is or whether a dummy would be any use?

Nikki76 · 19/05/2007 20:39

Ah..... 13 a bit old for that - sorry!

If she's 13 would she be better with tablets? They're probably easier to hide in food. Not sure if she has sensory issues though, if so tablets will be harder to get down her I guess.

never seen those, will have a look.
both DD's are going to hospital soon and will need a GA, oh what fun that will be.

she can spot medicine ect in anything.
i wonder if i can get away with a crushed paracetamol hidden in ice cream?

LOL - even with her visual impairment my dd's the same, she can spot something like a pill at 100 paces.

Crushed in ice cream may do the job.

thing is she is on hyper alert at the moment so everything is being very carefully examined!
