My son who has an EHCP is currently attending a special school in the local area. The school is great but feels that he could be more challenged in terms of curriculum and he is keen to learn and wish to be among mainstream children.
I have read some posts which talk about a unit attached to a mainstream school.
I am in need of finding such a school local to us as I think that would fit him much better than a special school which would give him the balance of having the extra support and access some mainstream lessons, where he can benefit from social opportunities in a mainstream setting as well.

Any advice on how to go about finding a right match?

How old is he?

The only units I have ever heard of in Herts. are speech and language units, EBD units or hearing impaired and any of those may have closed down? Obviously DC has to meet the criteria - like have the relevant difficulties.

However, you should be able to look up units attached to mainstream schools on The Local Offer. Failing that, send an email to your SEN officer and ask them for a list.

PS - the Local Offer should be somewhere on Herts.County Council website.
