Question about statement reports

Hi,My son is 5 and has selective mutism.
We have been waiting since January for the school,paediatrician etc to write up their reports to apply for a statement for my DS.

The reports are all in and ready to send .
Would I get copies of the reports written at any stage?

Am unsure as to the procedure from here on on.
If anyone has experience with this would be gratful of any advice.

yes you will get copies of everything.
when teh statement gets filed you will get a copy of everything in a bundle along with the proposed statement.

I was quite lucky as anyone who submitted a report also copied me one as well but that may be because i told them i wanted it and scared them lol

I did say that I would like copies of the reports but only got 1 copy sent to me.
I did ask the headmistress at DS's school if I could see the reports taht she already had in and she said that would be ok and would get them together for me to see but she did say you can't change anything!!

She was obviously a bit nervous about it as have had quite a fight with the school and authroties to get this far.

Would like to re assure myself that they have the facts correct as it has become blatantly obvious in the past that they knew very little about SM.

She is right about teh fact that you can't change anything in the reports but if there is anything factual that is wrong you can highlight that and im sure the report writter wouod be able to authorise its alteration.

Its such a hard slog and i totally understand how nervouse you are. your just depserate to see if anyone actually has "seen the light" but be patient....you never know, they may all be greatly in favour of lots of support.

I had heard it can be a long wait ,you would think something this important would be dealt with fairly quickly.

Have quite a few supportive people on our side so we will have to wait and see.

In my situation, when the LEA wrote to explain that they agreed to assess, they also sent me all the reports that had been compiled for the application - the school, SALT, ed psych etc. You'll also get your chance to put your views across again as they'll ask you to complete (another!) parental contribution.

My previous report was 8 pages long and it was a difficult thing to compile as you want to try and remember all the facts and also emotionally is difficult to write about such an emotive issue.

Oh yeh, don't I know it. I'm currently writing my contribution at the moment, it's mentally draining. I find it so hard to know what to include, that I write about absolutely everything and end up writing an epic. I'm hoping PP will give me some advice but they've not got back to me yet.

macwoozy-I found it quite difficult to remember back when he was a baby and relate back his speech problems.As a mother I understand him and I suspose take it for granted that everyone else does as well.

Had quite a lot of involvement from professionals the last couple of years so have been looking through old reports ,etc from that time.
It must have been so stressful for DS and still is the amount of apppointments and different people he has to come in contact with ,especially when he can't talk to them.
Although he has one lady that visits he has taken to and is happy to talk in front of her in the home.
Also his speech therapist has changed as well three times.

Took him to his appointment with the paediatrician yesterday and he looked so nervous he was almost shaking,the look on his face was heart breaking.
