Private asd diagnosis recognition

Can anyone tell me how I find out if the local nhs trust/lea will recognise a private diagnosis?

I've tried to find a local nhs paed who will diagnose privately as I've heard this is the best option to avoid difficulties, but I'm coming up blank. Can anyone tell me how to find one? I have found another private practitioner but they're not nhs related and I'm unsure if this will be accepted.

I have heard dr Stefan studnik is recommended in West London where we live and think his based at London st marys Paddington. He works for nhs but also privately too. Obviously if you are nowhere near London this probably wont be any help to you.

Sorry his nhs base is st marys Paddington but his private base is the Portland Hospital. If you are not too far away, you can google his name which comes up all his info and how to contact him.

Thanks Summerfalls. Not for anything as such at the moment z, but if we're paying for one I want to ensure its worthwhile if we do ever need it. We just want to be sure about what is/isnt going on.

Is your child on the waiting list for NHS assessment?

If you do go private IMHO it's worth reading the NICE guidelines and checking that the assessment follows them, for example it should be multi-disciplinary and not just one clinician's opinion. This can also be of benefit in the future as including eg OT and SALT assessments will give a broader indication of needs.

An alternative is to seek assessment for specific difficulties, eg if your child's main problems are sensory then start with an OT sensory assessment, likewise with speech/language, get a SALT assessment. These can always feed into an autism assessment later on.

For educational purposes many schools and education bodies do not recognise diagnosis not gained through NHS/educ psychology professionals. I'd take advice first

I will pm you but our private dr was the best money we have ever spent. Years wasted on the nhs with no answers now answers and the right help in place worth everything.
I chose a dr who is in the nhs and practices privately. If you choose just a private dr they won’t take the report dx and do anything with it. Terrible!
