SEN register help

I have recently discovered that DS11 is on the SEN register at school and I really need some help as to what I need to be asking.

DS has always struggled socially and has what I think are a lot of ASD traits. CAMHS have refused an assessment as he can make eye contact and has friends. He always struggles with routine disruptions, transitions and new situations amongst lots of other things. Me and DS have just been muddling through and developing our own ways of making things easier.

The school has been struggling and has recently has a new head who has bought in a new SENCO. The SENCO requested an appointment at the last parents evening and when I asked why she said the DS has been on the SEN register for years but I had never been informed.

What should I be asking? School has started some interventions but I feel like I should know more about this and I keep getting fobbed off.

5 YEARS without informing you? That's terrible. My son is on the autism spectrum. If I were you, I would ask the SENCO to refer your DS to an educational psychologist for an assessment. Ask exactly what interventions they are undertaking at school and how effective they are. Ask if there's anything you can do at home to bolster these interventions. Ask if they feel the interventions are sufficient or if they feel he requires more support. Which year is your son in?
