Does ADHD medication affect sleep?

Ds had his first day of ADHD meds. Now he won't asleep!. He has been taking melatonin for a few years, and is usually asleep by 815. Now its after 9 and he is still wide awake in his room.
Could it be related to the new meds?

Yes they can affect sleep. My ds takes his at 8am and they start wearing off around 1am. I won't give him a top up as it keeps him awake when we do. Also it does take body time to adjust. It was a good couple of months before ds side effects wore off
