Ruth Griffis Assesment? Ed ! plus more

I have now had HV in nursery to observe my son 4 with suspected special needs, he has had His assessment with the ED PHSO. TODAY what is the ruth griffis assesment that he is going to get next?

I'm not an expert so hopefully someone with more experience will come along & correct me if i'm wrong, but my understanding from DS2'S Ruth Griffiths assessment is that it is a standard set of tests carried out to help ascertain a child's developmental stage/age.
DS's developmental paed carries out his assesments, its very basic things like building a tower with 3 wooden blocks, making a bridge with the blocks, I'd have to dig out his reports to find some more specifics but basically they compare his response & ability to carry out the task against an expected outcome/ behaviour for a child of the same age.
Its all painless & ds2 enjoys his assessments.

Thanks very much, He seems to be getting lots of diffrnet assesments at the moment. Finally other people are starting to notice its not just normal behavouir from my son.

Hopefully we will get to the bottom of things soon. As speach and language therapy is very hard at the moment for him to concentrate long enough in sessions.

Griffiths' assessment seems to be standard for this age.

I've heard they don't think the results are always entirely accurate - but there aren't any good alternatives for this age group which is hard to test. Later on they can do different tests and get a wider range of measures. So it's worth taking particular notice of the way that the EP interprets it.

Paed did one when he assessed ds at 7 1/2 and I felt it was a reasonable evaluation. There are progressive tests according to age to illustrate various aspects of development, both strengths and weaknesses.

Forgot to say, IME the griffiths test is only a small part of the assessment process, along with general observations & reports from other professionals, teachers & of course you!
