Daytime/night time enuresis

I have two children with sn, but I'm a bit lost with my third. She has incontinence issues. Please see this thread for ease www.mumsnet.com/Talk/primary/3111152-Absence-letter

My question is what can I put in place? Can a child with severe incontinence issues have an EHCP?
My son was diagnosed ASD and we dealt with statementing, repeating years and changing to special needs schools, but we are lost as to watch they should be putting in place.

Surely a child with incontinence issues can have more help at school?

I've now read but don't think I can give any advice different to what you've already been given. At the very least she needs an IHCP. You need school on board with supporting her health needs adequately so that she can access the curriculum.

Have school nurses been involved? They can be great at liaising with teaching staff and helping to put the right support plan and regime in place.

I would also try the ERIC helpline for more specific advice, if you haven't already.

I wouldn't worry too much about the letter. They are designed to scare you but you were given a good steer on your last thread that they can't put it down as unauthorized. Use it as evidence that she needs more support in school. Keep a diary to log incidents. The focus should be on getting her medically stable and happy, otherwise of course she won't be able to learn.

Thank you, no we keep asking to see the nurse. I know that the hospital and the incontinence team have also requested we are seen by the school nurse. We are still waiting.

We had a meeting with SENCO before her term started as we had awful issues in her previous year. They agreed they would change her three times a day, whether wet or dry and I asked for a homeschool journal to communicate with them. But they became complacent.

She definitely needs something on paper putting in place and I feel that perhaps legally they could be letting her down.

Your school nurse system might be different to ours, so this may not help. Here, a parent gets the school nurse number from school office and phones them. They are not based in schools any more, they can go into school for meetings etc but ALL my very helpful contact with them has been via phone, initiated by me. They then contacted school to make arrangements. We didn't go through SENCO at all, but that might just because my child's needs didn't reach a high enough levels.

The enuresis clinic nurse also liaised direct with school in our case, but that might not be standard.

Thanks, SkyIsTooHigh. To be honest our school is useless at communicating. Probably part of the problem, but also why I suggested the diary. Even the senco has said the school nurse will be in touch, I've put it in writing requesting, incontinence team have said they will speak to school and get a nurse to make contact with us. It just never happens.

The Head had no idea of the meeting with the senco and form teacher - stating they would assign a TA and change her 3 times a day (there idea because DD would be nervous asking) surely they document meetings?
