Hi

We are currently pre-tribunal and negotiating our EHCP with the local authority. The LA have agreed to include 1-1 ABA tutor support in section F. However the school we would like is a mainstream school with a designated specialist provision for MLD students. At this school, all students start reception year in the mainstream school and then move to the MLD unit if written in the plan. My point is if we just have the provision as an ‘MLD’ school what if my son suddenly starts to make progress I don’t want him stuck in the MLD provision and not being able to move to a mainstream setting as they will refuse as section F states MLD provision.
I just wanted others opinions on how I should go about getting the wording correct to give him an option for the future.

I hope this makes sense.

Max

What is in the EHCP isn't set in stone, you have an annual review every year, at the point where the MLD school is no longer ddapplicable you can change the wording and request mainstream or whatever.
Once you've have an ehcp you request change of placement through the LA

How expensive is each provision? It will always be easier to move (at annual review, or emergency review) to cheaper / less specialist provision. Nothing should be set in stone forever- it should be a working document that changes to suit the developing needs of the child.
