Hello
My 4 yr old daughter has verbal dyspraxia. She was diagnosed back in May by the Nuffield Centre in London who advised that she would need a high level of speech therapy in order to progress. Despite this, the NHS will only give her once a week therapy (that's another long story...).
We were advised to apply for an EHCP by the Nuffield and did so in July but were turned down for a needs assessment. We have applied again (144 pages of reports, articles and anything I could get my hands on!) and this time the LA has agreed to assess her.
My question is what specifically and how many hours of support should I be asking for?
She is currently at pre-school nursery and school are resourcing her to have 1:1 speech practice sessions daily for 30 mins. Even if I ask for twice a day this would only equate to 5 hours a week. In my opinion, she also needs support in the classroom in general with her peers (who can't understand hardly a word she says and say she speaks a different language), and also accessing the curriculum where children are assessed mainly by speaking (the nursery teachers and staff also struggle to understand what she's saying).
Has anyone got experience of applying and being successful for an EHCP for a child with verbal dyspraxia? If so I would be very grateful for any advice as I'm struggling and of course want my daughter to have the help she needs to be able to cope at nursery and school.
