asd vs adhd - right diagnosis

Hi there. I'm sure no one will remember but I posted back at the end of September after my son's assessment saying he had been diagnosed asd but I wasn't sure if it was the right diagnosis and thought it might be adhd due to inattention / fidgeting / other people's opinions.

I just wanted to give a little update and thank everyone who commented on my post. after receiving the detailed ADOS report, attending an asd workshop by nas and doing a whole lot of reading and reflection I'm pretty sure their diagnosis of asd was correct. I think I had a pretty warped view of autism before (blame hollywood!)

although he did meet the adhd criteria for inattention and impulsivity and only missed the hyperactivity cutoff by one point so I guess that's where the confusion came into it.

He has an OT assessment coming up (thank you to the person that recommended OT) so they might be able to give some insight into his fidgetyness (is that a word?) etc.

Thank you again for all your advice and support x

I remember you!

So glad to hear everything has fallen into place a bit for you.

I’m sure the OT assessment will be useful (OT and SLT have made a huge difference for me in terms of understanding DS)

Good luck - these boards are a wealth of expertise so whenever you need some advice there’s bound to be someone who has been there before.

It's good to update :) glad you feel ok.
The only thing I would question is the ADHD part. It could be both asd and ADHD? I don't understand a cut off by one point?
Maybe keep an eye incase you need to re look at this?

Ps I had a warped view of all before I became a Sen mummy. Can't believe how much I didn't know and now how much people do not know and understand- especially teachers and health professionals.
