Will a dx actually help?

My ds2 is 13 in a couple of months he has quite a few dx already. He has currently been dx with severe adhd and takes 60mg of evanse, anxiety disorder which he takes 100mg of sertaline, sleep disorder and he takes 6mg of melatonin, learning difficulties, sensory processing disorder, social communication disorder and OCD.
He is a very complex child and attends a special needs school. He has had 2 assessments for asd the first was when he was 7 and I was told they had changed the criteria for a dx and if the assessment was done a few months earlier he would have had the asd dx. He had an ados last year with a lady he had never met before and before he was stable on his adhd meds she said he didn't have asd.
I attended camhs today as 1 of his sisters had a sensory profile done and as myself and both dcs caseworker were discussing dd1s reactions to certain stimuluses it was commented on how similar they were with certain things.
At the end of the assessment the caseworker wanted a quick catchup on how both dc have been. She stated she was surprised that the ados stated he didn't have asd as he had so many of the traits and admitted his Dr there was too.
She had a report from his school from a taf meeting stating that he had many autistic traits and that the school was questioning the ados.
He has seen 3 different educational psychs who have stated in their opinion he has asd as well as a Dr who was assessing him for his statement of educational needs when he was 7.

The Dr who originally did the asd assessment was from camhs but in a different area from where we are now as we moved a year later.
I really don't know what to do for the best it has been suggested I ask for a second opinion and push harder for the dx but I don't know if it means he will get more help and support then he gets now. Part of me is worried if he has undiagnosed asd then he may struggle in the future without it.
Given so many different professional have seen him and state in their opinion he has asd should I be pushing harder and if so how do I go about this?

Are you happy with the special school he attends? If you are I'm not sure a diagnosis would change much. But if you feel more could be done in terms of autism friendly strategies or if you feel he would be better off at a special school specifically for autistic children then I would imagine an ASD diagnosis would help.

Im not sure if I'm honest they assured me they could cope with him and last year they did but this year he has struggled coping but so far I had put it down to him possibly starting puberty but after today I'm really not sure. I'm due to go to an iep review next week and I can ask then if they think an actual dx would help him.
Part of it I think is I just want to make sure I've done everything possible to get him all the help and support he needs and after what has been said today I guess I'm not sure if he has if that makes any sense at all?

It sounds like you need to know even if the school manages to get things back on track. Does he see a community paediatrician? You can get the GP to refer you (I think the GP usually requires a letter in support of the referral from school too). Have to admit, my DS's paediatrician really resisted assessing him for ASD for a long time but eventually (when like you I had collected various opinions from education specialists that he had ASD) referred us to St Thomas's Hospital where they made the diagnosis.

Thank you the replies. He hasn't seen a community peadtrition since he was 4 they referred him to camhs for diagnosis and we have been under them since.
I will speak to school and see if I can get a letter of support if they agree I will try and get hold of his school record they hopefully have all the problems and struggles he's had. I've done a lot of work with him over the years to try and help him for in better so he could make friends and I thought it would stop the bullying he was going through.

That is really difficult. My DS has started special school just this September. Generally I'm thrilled with it but I have to admit there have been incidents where he says another child bullied him. I've raised them with the school who sound like they've dealt with them properly. He is very aware of what is 'personal' and what is a child lashing out without any intent towards another child.

We have had similar and ds2 has said 1 particular child has bullied him. His school has been on top of it but with my ds if someone doesn't smile or constantly look and sound happy he thinks that means people don't like him and with this 1 child they are very similar and I think clash because of it.
I rang the tree house trust yesterday to ask them for advice as i couldn't through to the national autism society and they have said they would advise me to push for a second opinion and I'm waiting to hear from his school.
