Games consoles, good or bad idea?!

Hi all,
We are thinking about the "C" word (sorry!!) and present ideas.

Dd may have high functioning autism. She has anxiety and sensory issues. In the past, she loved playing Sonic the Hedgehog on the laptop, when she was stuck at home with chickenpox! We did find she seemed to get easily over stimulated/excited and it would prompt licking and some behaviours. This was quite a while ago now though.

Just wondering about experiences with others children? Dd is 6. I try to limit screen time but wonder if it would be a nice present or really bad idea?!

Also, I'm so out of touch with gaming and consoles...wouldn't know where to start!

I think it would be a nice present OP ! DS wants a Nintendo DS for his birthday but I'm debating this as his so addictive to electronics but they give him a chance to de-stress.

How old is she ? Have you thought about a portable console ? Nintendo... PS4.

Can recommend Minecraft in creative mode. Peaceful music in background and DS always calm when he plays it

We are gamers (me less so these days) so have always had consoles. We don't limit screen time but ds flits between gaming, reading, drawing, Lego and whatnot. If you make it something you do together it's even better IMHO.

Agree that Minecraft is fantastic.

Thank you all, I'll start looking into it! Bit worried about cost but I'll take a look.

She has a leap pad currently and will play on that occasionally, or on laptop.
