Criteria for an ehcp

My ten yo son has an asd dx and gets very limited Help at school. He suffers from sensory issues and anxiety. He hides his symptoms at school and as such they don't see the full picture. The ht said I should not apply for ehcp as he can access the curriculum, I disagree and would like to apply but is it possible without school support. He has an IEP ath the moment but it is very hit and miss if he gets the help listed on that. We pay for a private tutor or would be way behind hie peers but the school seem to be taking credit for progress when it is more down to his tutor. I feel so confused and emotionally drained by everything and need to know if it is worth applying

You should absolutely apply. You can do so yourself without school support.

There is nothing stopping you making he application but the LA will ask your school to fill in a questionnaire before they agree to assess. If the school isn't on your side and say your DC doesn't need any extra support you have an uphill struggle on your hands. If it was me, I would go back to the Senco firstwith a comprehensive list of questions. I.e.: DC has difficulties here, what are you doing to support? You will also need a clear of idea of your son's levels as he would need to be significantly behind his peers for an EHCP.

he is about 18 months behind where he should be but it would be even more if we hadn't had a tutor. It is not really his academic abilty that I am concerned about more his emotional and social difficulties. He does need extra support but the school are reluctant to help IMO.

Yes you can apply yourself for an EHC Needs assessment.
