A very depressing read it was too. Hopefully a little more negative than >S's true abilities - e.g. "S is beginning to search for objects out of >sight, showing that he has the beginnings of object permanence". Conclusion >was "Although his communication is continually developing, S has very >delayed understanding and use of language for his age. There are potential >oncerns about his social interaction at this stage, but this should be >properly investigated by a multi discplinary team in due course, preferably >before he reaches school age".

so from being very positive at the >assessment, feeling he didn't need any further professional involvement, >and she didn't think he was on the spectrum, her views seem to have altered >somewhat. Oh nuts.Time to take my head out of the sand and ask HV or GP for >a paed referral now.>

DS1 has just been given 10 hours extra help, part 1-1 and part small group- think they're using 1-1 for lunchtimes, wisely imo.

MTS, after you apply for the statement the LEA legally has a maximum of 6 months to process, but often they refuse and you have to go to appeal and it takes a bit longer. So if he starts Sep 2008, I'd apply in March. Get all the aperpwork together you can first- the BIBIC stuff we had done for us helped with ds1.

thanks peachy - DS should have his first NHS SALT appoint Jan 2008. and who knows how long the paed waiting list will be, the GP certainly didn't. Another head out of sand task for next week I think, phoning them up to check this out.

Portage...... ahh yes, seem to remember DS3 was supposed to get that LOL!

I'd not have done it if I hadnt been through with ds1, but I am aware DS3 depends on it more, and I know what buggers tey can be. Had an Ed PSych SCREAM at me and Dh a few weeks back! (Mind you I did get the AM (Assmebly member involved LOL)

MTS

here . Looks heavy its not, they cover Dyslexia and all levels.

You have to get very assertive I'm afraid . I often bemoan the loss of my sweeter side, but its apr for the course.

thanks for the link PC, looks good ,I know people on MN have been impressed by bibic, distance wise it probably is out tho as we are in NW england and no car!

it's the dawning realisation that if you don't do anything, nobody else will! and even if you do do anything you can't rely on HV etc to help navigate you through the system.

You're dead right MTS.
My maxim is...do yourself a favour.Do it yourself.

PeachyChocolateEClair · 05/04/2007 21:48

They do outreach now, to varius plsces around the country- I think Dingle goes to one in Kent, for instance. And there is a train- Hell, if you ever want to go I'll pick you up from the station and drive you over- there's a bungalow for staying in (there are 2 BIBICs, one near us one near Mum where I grew up).

If you ever do fancy it, if you call them they will arrange a free (free being a GOOD word LOL) chat for an hour or more, they'll get a specialist to call you. Its a good way of making the decision.

have you got copies of all the assessments DS has had done at Nursery? here they have baselines, don't know if that is universal or not? take copies of those, they're great to send in with statement applications. Keep copies of everything, and parcel it up alongside.

moondog · 05/04/2007 21:49

Yes,copies of everything.
Don't forget that you can see his salt file too.

mummytosteven · 05/04/2007 21:55
