Lashing out.

DS 10 has AS. I was away this weekend so he and DAD went to stay at my parent's house.
I went to collect them last night and he smiled when he saw me then about half an hour later just started lashing out at me, kicking and punching and swearing.
This happens everytime he's been away from me.

I talked to him once he'd calmed down and he said he misses me and is pleased to see me but doesn't know how to be happy to see me.

Has anyone else had this. It's so relaxing getting a night away then it's all ruined within 30 minutes of being back and we're all stressed out again.

Sounds like he finds it very stressful being other places, or with different people, can't relax, holds it all in and is then overwhelmed and exhausted once he's home. It's very common and can happen even after a good experience. Key thing is to absolutely minimise demands when he gets home, let him flop and do nothing if he needs to.

He does adore his grandparents and is always happy to go there.
I think some time alone with him when I get back to him each time may work.
He really struggles with emotions even positive ones, not knowing how he's meant to feel etc.

It might be better to leave him when he gets home.
