Rispiradone and autism

I prob just need a bit of hand holding here. Ds age 7, nearly 8 was prescribed rispiradone today. He has behavioural issues, poor concentration etc. I just wasn't expecting it this quick. I know it'll make life easier for him and for us, but its just such a big thing for me to get my head around. I know I'll be fine tomorrow.
Anyone else child on rispiradone. All info welcome. Thanks x

Not what you want to hear but ds2 had a dreadful experience on this drug - basically sent him psychotic (strange as it is meant to be an anti-psychotic). Initially it did help reduce his anxiety and in lots of children it can be beneficial. It is worth a try but please do watch out for side effects and go back to your consultant if he experiences sleeplessness, weight gain or particularly increased need to go to the loo. The latter we think in retrospect was an early warning sign that things were going very wrong for ds2. It is difficult because obviously things must be bad for you to even consider medication.

Ds has been on it for a few years now. It has made a lot of difference to him and was literally a life saver for family. Initially he put on weight but this changed and he is now a normal weight again.

Intuniv is very good for autism. Our ds has been on this for 4 months. Works 24 hours, no side effects

I work with several children (ASD special ed) on Rispirodone and for some it is life transforming. Doesn't work for everyone tho and one side effect can be weight gain.. it can cause an insatiable desire for food so you need to keep an eye on that... a couple of our kids are very overweight now.
But far less anxious and much better able to cope ... so it is definitely worth trialing !

Scrabble - can I ask how you've found intuniv- we are in the process of changing meds again and this one want suggested. Does it come in tablet only form?
