DS 8 was diagnosed with mild/moderate ADHD a couple of months ago, he is still struggling at school with doing work and violent out bursts. We discussed medication with his paediatrician. His has given us some information about these two treatments and sent us away to think about what we want to do.

Does anyone have experience of these two you can share with me please?

ds 8 is on equasym xl over a year now, only med we were offered. It's worked well for him, he's gone from bottom of class to top of the class.

Beginning was scary as we got a zombie effect for first month while his system adjusted, headaches and stomach aches but we found taking does increase slowly headed off side effects.

Appetite was hugely affect in early days and he lost weight but we started large breakfast and late high calorie supper made difference - he still has no appetite during the day be he accepts he has to eat a small bit of fruit at break and one sandwhich for lunch.

We have some med wear off around 3pm but we either encourage him to play outside or have some ipad time.

Each kid is different. Some react well to stim meds while others don't.

Did a google on Strattera Fda have black box for suicide and suicidal thoughts while stims have greater cardiac risk. I insisted of ds having ecg before starting
