Hi, my DS1 has always been a handful and in October last year we decided to see a child psychotherapist to get him assessed for ADHD.
She said he has some traits but is not fully ADHD. She said he has emotions of a 2yo and is a control freak (my words!!).
We have had regular sessions with her my husband and myself and we have seen some improvements. However there are still lots of problems about not making the good choices at school, being very impulsive, fidgety, not showing any empathy for others. Other than that he is a very bright and sporty boy. He is very anxious too.
Teacher mentioned before half term that we should re-assess him for ADHD. Now I can't remember what another mum told me: the best practician for ADHD diagnoses are.... ??? Is it clinical psychologist? Psychiatrist? I am confused!!!!
Thank you!

Hello our son is nearly 11 and was diagnosed adhd at age 6 . He has traits of ads, mild LD, teachers say he doesn't show empathy but he does when I observe him. I think at school they are trying so hard to hold together they don't have capacity to really notice others emotions . He is very anxious and immature for his age, adhd brain matures 30% slower. I went to GP and adhd nurse observed him at school and lots I questionnaires were completed. He is now taking INTUNIV and doing much better. We are a consultant at the Ryegate centre in Sheffield every 3 months. They are fab. Do you feel you need help with school?

Hello. Ds age 8 has adhd, diagnosed at 6 (was on radar for many years). On the plus he's athletic, energetic, smart, funny. In the negative he's flighty, stroppy, impulsive. Meds have made a huge difference. We had to work very hard on empathy - he doesn't feel it but has learned the appropriate reponses - don't laugh when people are bleeding Hmm.

We went to GP and he referred us to nhs adhd team - they did a history and he did qb test
