DLA renewal questions

Our award is running out in 6 months.

do I need to request renewal forms myself or will they come in the post (and if so, how long before current award runs out)?

anybody renewed recently? are they making it hard? DD has autism and mod-severe LD, i.e. very high needs but I still worry as her DLA is a lifeline to us...

They should send you the forms automatically 20 weeks before your current award ends. If you haven't received them by then give them a ring.

We renewed recently - our son has asd and learning disabilities and is starting a complex needs school in September. He is 5. We were given high rate care and low rate mobility for 8 years. I think as long as you write as much as you can on the forms and send in lots of evidence you should be okay (I sent in lots of reports and his ehcp).

So glad it went well for you fairy ....

Mine on the other hand has been horrendous. Used to get mrc, lrm. Renewal came in at mrc only ... asked for mandatory reconsideration.... whole award taken away! Appealed to tribunal... lost Sad

There was so much info that I'm still in shock as to how we've been turned down. Doesn't make an ounce of sense. I've completely lost faith. I've read on here a lot recently about awards being lowered/taken away. Sad

We shouldn't have to jump through these stupid hoops when we fight enough for our dc every single day.

Good luck coffee

lost at tribunal? With autism and learning diffs? goodness me. I am so sorry.

DD is in a special school. needs really round the clock care. cannot access any mainstream activities. You really got me worried now.

can you reapply? so unfair.

We have just renewed for DS who is 10. He has severe ASD and LDs. He was on MRC and LRM and is now awarded HRC and LRM. His last renewal was at age 5. Nights are much more of a problem now than at 5, so I feel the award is correct.
It took them 5 weeks from receiving our renewal. I had quite a lot of external evidence in the renewal.

He is also in a special school, non-verbal and unable to access mainstream activities.

Sorry to those with bad experiences. I was terrified of DDs renewal which was start of April, so I feel it important to log the positive ones too. We moved from MRC, LRM to HRC, LRM.
I was utterly dumbstruck tbh.
