My daughter is in Year 1 and attends an additional resource centre for speech, language and comm difficulties within a mainstream school. She has a PDA, severe speech delay and verbal dyspraxia diagnosis. I was going to request an EHCP but school have now agreed to do it. Thing is, I'm questioning myself after recent meeting with school. They said that DD is in her placement school, that the plan would need to reviewed again in a coupe of years in prep for secondary and may get refused for assessment as statement transitions are priority.
I'm also thinking about DD. It has dawned on me that her speech may not miraculously be fine, will she ever make more friends and will she take a GSCE?? Teacher says she doesn't think DD will go to special school as she's 'bright' but if she can't clearly communicate how will she survive in mainstream? She said that DD is picking up on my anxiety. I thought I was accepting that DD was on a different path but perhaps I'm not. School want me to let them get on with it and have asked me to trust them. I worry about whether anything has been missed...DDs speech issues were picked up at 2...
