She came home with what I thought was a rash but she said she did it her myself with a pencil during Phonics at school! She was clearly distracted or anxious. She said she was finding it difficult and the teacher shouted at a couple of pupils.

Made me feel worried. Am I overreacting, is this just a kiddy thing. I feel she must have been quite anxious. Dd has diagnosed anxiety/sensory and is being assessed for ASD.

:-(

Coming to think of it, I seem to remember seeing similar marks on her hands after school recently.

Talk to the teacher and sendco about how she can be supported in class. Some children need some kind of fiddle toy or something when they're feeling anxious.
Is she confident in asking for help if she needs it?

She has a worry box with bits n bobs but doesn't use it. She takes a cuddly toy everyday to hold.

She has Selective Mutism and only occasionally speaks to ask for help to certain people/teachers

This must have hurt. I feel as though I'm always bothering school at the minute but I think I may mention and as them to keep an eye on it, as will we. What do u think?

I would speak to school. Apart from her having hurt herself she is clearly feeling anxious is lessons and it needs addressing.

The thing is, they know she gets anxious. I wrote a note and handed it to her lovely teacher but heard nothing back.

Also, dd has since mentioned to me she liked how it felt?

Do you have a friendly health visitor? I think if you start to mention it as self harm, teachers will be forced to respond. I bit drastic, but it will force the issue for it to be addressed. Does dd have a dx?

Diagnosis anxiety, Selective Mutism and poss sensory struggles/behaviour (most definitely). Also, poss delay in motor processing skills.
She is being assessed for ASD but they are inconclusive currently it seems. We would sway towards Aspergers traits.
