Hi - DS(9) has dyslexia and borderline dyspraxia. Has up to date OT/EP/SLT report. Our LA have agreed to carry out an assessment for an EHCP, but to be honest, I don't know what I should be expecting in the initial meeting.
It mentions looking at what we would hope for, but I don't know - he is a very mainstream boy, with a brother with Aspergers, for this reason I think prefers mainstream schools so he can just be with NT kids, as he has to make so many allowances at home for sibling.
Also, is agreeing to carrying out an assessment a good sign? I know I mustn't get my hopes up, and understand that an EHCP without complex needs is unlikely.
Right now we're in an independent mainstream Prep, and pay extra for a lot of one to one and small group work at school. He is very happy at school, and really does not want to change schools. This is fine for him for rest of Y4/5 and 6, it's Senior School that I'm thinking of.
My ideal would be to know what Senior School he could go to - for example if they were to name a particular State Senior school near us.. does that happen with an EHCP, or am I totally imagining things? Do I dare to mention this?
Thank you wise ones.
