Hi all just after a bit of advice on the issue of screaming and meltdowns.
We have 2 sn kids . One is a 11 and the other 3. Both have complex needs and oldest one has the development of a toddler. He has always been a happy little chap on the whole though always had the odd meltdown .
Anyway he is hitting puberty with a vengence and is becoming increasingly aggressive and moody.
The latest trigger is the youngest child crying . It results in a huge meltdown everytime and it is getting to the point where we dread going out with them both together. Honestly he threw the most enormous tantrum in M & S today when little one started to cry and as dh had gone to try some clothes on i was left with both of them screaming blue murder. Any attempts to distract or console him results in scratching , grabbing and trying to tip wheelchair over.We have tried ignoring behaviour which has no effect and is difficult to do in public when you are drawing a crowd ! We dont know whether it is the pitch of little ones cry or what but he has lived with us for 2 yrs now (adopted) and this is a recent development.
Anyone had anything similar and if so any new strategies to try?
And if your child has made it out the other side of puberty did their behaviour settle down again?
