My son is currently in Year 1 with an ehcp, he has autism and gets 1:1 help throughout the day. We are looking to move further away which will be a completely new area out of our borough. What happens to his EHCP? Will it get transferred or do we have to apply for a new one?

Transfer - speak to your new LA about how to arrange it - presumably you will want to visit schools too?

You don't have to reapply. Tell your current LA when you know you are definitely moving. They should forward his file to the new one, which will have to make a formal decision about whether they will accept the EHCP as it is or review it. They'll presumably have to amend it anyway to put it onto their own template and to name the new school, but until then the old one will remain in force.

Thank you all so much. Getting thw EHC in the first place was a long challenging procedure and I am glad we won't be put through all of that again.
