Diagnosis and DLA

Does anyone know if a completed diagnosis of ADHD is needed to be able to claim DLA or if a referral by the school and GP is enough? I don't know how long it'll take to get the actual confirmation as we're seeing the consultant in July.

DLA is entirely based on needs rather than diagnosis. You could get DLA for an undiagnosed child with high needs but nothing for a child with a diagnosis who is managing well.
(I have a child with ASD who I get DLA for but due to his anxiety and sleep issues rather than his ASD diagnosis)

That's great, thank you. Mine has huge sleep issues too, that's why it's been suggested.
