Is this normal 3 yr old behaviour

My friend's 3 yr old ds is overly anxious IMO.
Whenever he sees anyone but his mum he goes ballistic. Hates people and other children. So if in a park and another child approached he would scream the park down.
Hates fans and cries when the bells go off in the nearby church.
Speech and communication seems fine with immediate family.
It is getting to the stage that I cannot see friend as her ds hates seeing other people.
Just doesn't seem normal.

Has your friend shared any concerns with you? If she has then i would suggest that her hv can refer her to a paed to check out her son. If not then it has generally seemed the consensus on mnet when similar questions have been posted that you shouldn't raise the issue with her first.
Hope this helps.

in answer to your question - such extreme distress doesn't sound very usual and so no imo it's not normal.

2 of mine were the same. One turned out to have aspergers, the other didn't so its worth getting checked for. Soem kids are just over-anxious.

It does seem out of the ordinary - can't say I've ever seen an NT child with such extreme reactions. My NT ds is three and so are most of his friends ? this is completely out of my experience (but I'm no expert on SN so could be wrong).
