Higher or foundation paper

My DS is taking his gcse english resit in a week . He has been put in for the higher paper but I asked them to put him for foundation as he is a D grade.I'm wondering if I've done the right thing now as I just found out he was entered for higher in his special school before.He is now m/s college.

Apparently it is easier to get a C on higher than foundation ?

I'm not sure about English, but I know in languages we'd put them in for Higher unless there was a danger they would get a U in the paper. The way the grading worked it was easier to get a D with Higher paper. Ring them up after half term, it shouldn't be difficult to change papers, but probably best to speak to somebody from the department.
