What happens after ASD diagnosis?

I think, from professional opinion, we are on the verge of an ASD diagnosis for DD (we see the paediatrician again next week). I just wondered what happens after? Do we still see the paediatrician at intervals? There was mention of an autism nurse? Any info appreciated :)

In my area nothing happens!

If you are lucky you get added to the waiting list for a cygnet course and you would be told to find a parent support group.

I hope your area is better (mind you that wouldnt be hard from such a low baseline).

Oh, sorry, unless you count the really tedious parenting info sessions on ASD... parts of my life I'll never get back.

Same here really - nothing happened in terms of other appointments, although when we got the report setting out DS's autism diagnosis there were a lot of recommendations that fed into his EHCP which was useful.

agree, nothing. we see paed anually but more as formality. no help/support otherwise (apart from 1:1 support in school via Ehcp).

How old is DD? When DS1 was dx aged 3, it did trigger a couple of things. The paediatrician did a notification to education which is specific to preschool age DC in my area, and DS1 was then seen by Ed Psych and a Specialist Teacher became involved. The preschool then also got additional funding. We saw the diagnosing paeditrician 6 months later and were then discharged back to the community paediatrician. We were also given information on an ASD parenting course.
