Advice please.
My daughter has recently been diagnosed with social communication disorder. Peer group social training groups are flourishing in the States and Canada but none in the UK. Any good ideas out there?

I think it depends who's running them and for whom. I watched Ds at school the other day in playground trying to join in games and talk to children, but being ignored because of the way he was doing it. He wants to engage, but needs a hand with some basics - I wish his school had some expertise to run a group. I also think a group without the right expertise and purpose is definitely worse than nothing.

Where are you based? And how profoundly affected is your DD? I found this article useful for working out where my DS sits in the whole S&C spectrum.

I'm also looking for classes for my DS (7) and have found a possible one starting soon(ish) in London. It seems to be difficult to find this service outside of schools - in our school it's run by TAs off a script given by a SALT, which didn't sound too promising and the school didn't even think it was any good! Message me if you want to join forces on a private class.

Have you seen the materials by Michelle Garcia Winner? She has some good books which teach transferable skills by training the kids in social thinking, rather than rote learning of how to say hello etc.

I also think a group without the right expertise and purpose is definitely worse than nothing. Totally agree!
