Any joy with Ehcp for high functioning Autism

Has anyone had any joy with this? been to see a lovely high school this evening, son is not due to go in September but the following year, the Ed pych reccomended we had a look round schools this year and next.

My son does suffer a lot of anxiety about going into school, in school he clashes with other children, finds it hard to keep friends, and will not use the toilet in school and because I work he is in breckky club and after school club so he is going without the toilet for 8 hours or more. He also had Spd.

Anyway my point is this evening we have been to a school that is really good (open evening) but its a catholic school and my son is not catholic and basically they have told me the only way he will get in is with an Ehcp if I can prove its the best school for him, now it will be as they seem so supportive not just with the children but the parents too.

I have a lady coming from Barnados soon to go through the Ehcp proccess, but am I on a hiding to nothing????

My Dd3 has a statement, she is academically able but finds school extremely difficult. She fell apart in yr 6 due to the pressure and poorly trained staff, it went downhill from there.

It took us 2 full yrs and 2 appeals to get there and it was too late for her by the time we got through it.

She is now home ed!

If you have evidence eg, Unmet targets, poor progress, exclusions etc then you will stand more chance of getting an EHCP if your child needs one.

You can do the ordinary school place appeal process if the EHC plan fails. If you can prove that your DS needs the school badly enough to outweigh overcrowding it (and there aren't more deserving cases) then panel will say yes.

I wouldn't advocate changing religion for a school place- but it's not unheard of.
