Really struggling today.....!!!

This is a really selfish post as of course, I love my son dearly but I just wish I was able to do all the things I dreamed of doing with him......

The sun is shining and I want to take him out on a bike or for a walk or shopping(where he can sit in the seat of the trolley...!)to see him enjoy feeding the ducks......but I cant and its just making feel really sad today

My son seems happy and all the things I mentioned above would purely be for my happiness and make me feel like a real mum!

I think all supermarkets should have a few trolleys with supportive seating for toddler age kids - it wouldn't be hard. It's maddening that they don't. Just adds to the isolation.

Have you got a supportive pushchair yet? He'd find it easier to see/feed the ducks (if he's able to) if he was sat up properly.

It is the really simple things like not being able to take him shopping in the supermarket.....!

I was so excited yesterday and as we walked round the park he was awake and kicking his legs- no one could understand why I was so excited that he was kicking his legs as we went along.

He wouldnt take any interest in feeding ducks etc at this point plus I also had this little ideal in my head of him walking along in wellies blah blah.

Im sure he will take more interest in things eventually and of course we'll make allthe adaptions we need to so he can do it all- but it will never be lke I hoped it would.

I'm with you sister, that image i had of me holding my son's hand as he toddles down the street next to me just kills me.

dont underestimate how much your son is taking in he may not be able to express to you right now but with time you'll both understand and develop your own communication style.

Sorry I wasn't very helpful just then, having a bit of horrible day myself. Hang in there though, you probably have good days and bad days like me - you become better at hanging on the to the good ones.

Also, seeing as you mentioned parks - WHY ON EARTH DON'T THEY HAVE AT LEAST ONE SPECIAL NEEDS SWING IN THEM???!!!! It makes me so mad and sad because like I said, the isolation is terrible. There should be A LAW!

Dog tired- I didnt think that your post wasnt helpful-its just how it is....! the bad days are getting father and few between but then one comes up and bites me right on the bum....!

sunshine- you right I proabably do underestimate exactly how much my son is taking in- new things every day. Just hope I get to buy those wellies one day and I dont care if there for a 16 year old

you will buy those wellies. i work with adults with a disability and i am amazed everyday at their abilities.

Ive too worked with adults with disabilities and children also. It was always my passion and absolutly LOVED my job.

Having knowledge can definatly be a down side...!
