Hi all
I go on this site everyday i think it is brilliant and i have gained so much valuable information form it!
My DS has got ADHD and i have been reading through alot of threads about cliaming DLA.
The only thing that is putting me off is the forms as i know that they are very long winded, can anyone give me some advice as at the moment i am sitting on the fence unsure of whether to apply or not! Silly i know!
TIA

apply. the worst that can happen is they refuse and you have lost nothing....by waiting you are possibly losing funds that could be put towards all manner of things for your ds

my top tips for DLA is to imagine you child on the worst possible day and complete the form with that day in mind. so if last week he woke up in thenight 5 times, say he wakes up 5 times a nght.

List every little detail, it is really upsetting and very difficult to describe uor children so negativly but you must make sure you are clear in explaining just how difficult his life can be at times.

and the most important - GET A COPY BEFORE YOUR POST IT. that way if they say its lost in the post you can com[lete the form quickly and accuratly, if your accepted and you need to renew your claim you have last times form in front of you for refference and best of all you have a timed and dated report of your sons progress. i recently looked at DS's first DLA form and i could have cried at how far he has come in sucha relativly short space of time.

Another thing to bear in mind is that they often turn down your application. Do not accept this. If they do you can appeal this decision.
We appealed their initial turn down many moons ago and they granted the appeal and backdated the payments to our first application.

hiya
I started a thread like this a few months ago and yesterday we got our results - wow - highest entitlement! so it is well worth applying. I thought at the time we'd be lucky to get low entitlement. emotionally, it was very draining, but now it's done, I've kept the copies so I can reapply with a lot less stress next time.
I'd really recommend gettting as much help as pos filling in the forms. I think that is what makes the most difference to the amount you get. See if there are any local groups for parents of children with adhd who can help, otherwise there is CAB.

Definitely apply. There are some excellent guides to help you with ideas and tips. It won't all be relevant but there's bound to be a few things that will help.

Will look for the links for you.
