I don't know the process now. After almost two years of battling to get an EHCP for my son, we are stunned to have received one.
Now, which schools do you know that are suitable for an academically very able child who needs support? There only seem to be specialist schools for children with MLD or SPD.

Can you look at independent specialist schools? Cmabian and priory groups are the ones that spring to mind.

Or any schools with ASD units attached?

I've been told to look everywhere as there's nothing in our county

Ok how about a rough area - north or south east or west!

Is it for boarding, day school? Are they willing to pay independent?

That's a really useful observation. South east. I'm only being vague because we have been pursued by journalists. I'd like them not to gain info.

If he has ASD, try Grateley, Southlands, Blossom House. Maybe LVS Hassocks.

Are they good for academically v able chikdren? If he's not stretched, his behaviour is more 'interesing'. Challenging work tends to keep him focused and stimulated.

Is he the right type forSt Dominic's? I'veheard sime good things about them. Or would a specialist unit at MS be better?
Have you talked to anyone at the NAS?

Melawati · 29/08/2016 16:28

Not from area but look at independent with smaller classes - is 1:1 support asked for in statement

hendricksyousay · 26/12/2017 13:01

Mainstream school with a 1-1 sounds like the best option . Some ms schools have ssc units for children different issues and need a little bit more support .
