Reins in Maclaren Major?

Hi everyone,

Does anyone have any experience with using reins in a Maclaren Major Elite? We’re thinking about buying one but we’ve found out that the clips where you attach them are on the waist strap which we don’t really understand. It seems like that wouldn’t really stop her leaning forwards or outwards and we’re worried if she did the buggy could still fall over.

We thought about trying to use the short straps which came with the reins but because of the design there’s nowhere to properly attach them. Has anyone has this problem before and did you solve it?

Sorry if this is a daft question; we can usually figure out this sort of thing, but if anyone has any ideas, we’d be really grateful.

The McLaren is not the buggy for you!!!! If DC is a wrestler then it will fall. My DS constantly flipped his!!!!

This is good information - thanks for letting us know. Was it a case of it falling over sideways? Did you find a solution, or did you end up getting a different buggy?

She's nearly 11 and she's not a wriggler, but she can sometimes lean forwards and out sideways. We think the major buggy is the best choice overall, but we want to be sure there's a way we can safely use the reins. Is there a trick to attaching them, or should we look at other buggies?

Thanks very much for the link - it's a good idea, but we're not sure it would work for us - she'll almost certainly figure out how to unzip it even though it says it has a cover to stop that.

We'd like to keep the reins just because they're really practical and safer. It just seems silly that the clips where you attach them are on the waist strap and not further up in the seat. Any tips or tricks would be really helpful!

If not, we'll have to look at other buggies, but the Major Elite seems ideal except for this one problem!

Our major elite has been a lifeline for our 4 year old, though she wriggled out fairly quickly.

Our best solution was the "escapement" which costs less than £10 and fixes onto the buggy straps.

We're using a houdini strap at chest height as DS escapes otherwise. It's been brilliant. DS now outgrowing it and am looking at the options for what next and it's looking very expensive.
