How to get started with minecraft?

Seen quite a few mentions about minecraft here so ...Ds is 5 and I think he would get a lot out of it if I could just get him going, but I don't know where to start. We've had it on the iPad for a while and played around with it, but can't find any basic instructions anywhere - can't even reliably dig holes or build anything - sometimes seems to work others not.
Any ideas where to start with the very very basics.

Thanks

There are some good child-friendly You Tubers like Stampylongnose who give good overview tutorials. My DS basically taught himself how to play modelled on Stampy!

Dd3 also watches Stampy videos, she started off by buiding random massive structures and then blowing them up with TNT which I always had to watch! Grin

She was recovering from a trauma at the time! Now she builds amazing houses with underwater bedrooms and musical doorstep switches and stuff!!

Good luck Smile

Great stuff thank you all. Ds would definitely like to blow things up.
