Potty training with speech delay

Started potty training ds 2yrs 10 months old we are on day 2 used the potty twice yesterday but nothing so far today.Just wondered how anyone else is getting on with this.

My DS is 2.6 and we haven't tried yet. He has communication difficulties, and has quite limited understanding.

I'm not exactly sure how I'm meant to train him until his understanding improves, so I'm not worrying about it for the time being.

My Ds is 4 and is still in nappies and won't be training any time soon.
Ds has asd, also non verbal and not much understanding.
It's best not to rush these things until they are ready

many NT children are still in nappies at that age. What made you start to potty train? any signs of readiness?

If not I would probably put it aside for a while and try in a few months again. If a child is not ready, it becomes a huge battle which only causes frustration on both sides.

Started to potty train because he took his nappy off and sat on the potty and did a wee.I think this was a fluke cause I've had to sit him on it every time since he hasn't bothered to go and sit on it himself maybe to early. Thanks for all your input 😆

My dd was 3 in April. She refused a nappy one day recently so we got a few potties and kept putting her on. Now she'll use her potty all the time at home although getting to remember when she's wearing clothes isn't easy. She's non verbal which doesn't make it easy.

Thank you Ms queen 33 for your input it's good to know you've had success.I know what you mean about the clothes I think we're a way off that. But I decided to carry on with it as I was only a few days in, today we've had a breakthrough and he got on the potty himself so hopefully we will start to make some progress I think it will be a while before ds masters it but they all learn in their own time.

I'd keep going. I only started as she point blank refused a nappy. Her not being able to tell me is happy but I figure we are over half way there. Bare bottom and regularly trips to the toilet/potty. She'll take herself now when we're at home and she's started to get the whole trousers thing tho takes them off rather than pulls them down.

I'll definitely keep going now
