ADOS and ADI-R

Hi, new here! I have a DS who is currently being assessed by CAMHS. He was diagnosed with SPD at the age of 3, but now CAMHS seems to be suggesting ASD of some form in addition to this. We did all the ADOS forms and assessments a few months ago and they finally got back to us saying the results were inconclusive. We (DH and I) now have a meeting next week to complete the ADI-R questionnaire. Can anyone explain the difference between ADOS and ADI-R, I'm not understanding why they want to do both. Also, they want to focus on age 4-5, he is 12 now, so going to have to dig through my old journal entries tonight .

No idea. Ask them why. They should be able to answer. Ask them if they focus on 4-5years of age when they are diagnosing adults. I very much doubt it.

We certainly did a whole load of questionnaires before the ADOS assessment happened, but they were presumably a separate thing (SPD/ADD/ADHD etc) I would have asked re the ADI-R assessment, but it was DH who took the call as i was on holiday at the time, and he isn't one for getting details I agree the age 4-5 stuff is odd, but I feel like we have been asked questions about just about every single part of his life, from conception onwards at this point .

I'll go armed with my trusty notebook next week and ask lots of questions!

Ah, this rings a bell! I think I did a phone questionnaire prior to ADOS focussing on age 4 (dd was 6 at the time). I found it difficult to recall. I remembered 3 better as it was the age the 'symptoms' really presented themselves. Things like did they repeat phrases etc etc. I recall saying how hard it was to remember as I'd just had a baby when did was 3.5 and I had 4 dc five and under and I just couldn't recall. What I remember is that I said I couldn't recall repeatitive speech, and then the next day she began repeating her speech,. I guess she always had, but I never really noticed.

We had a 3 di assessment while did had ADOS. I was not at all prepared for the phone questionnaire as it came out of the blue and I just didn't have my shit together!

In my area this the the standard method of assessment now fro what I can gather.

A social communication assessment, ADOS and Adi-r.

I suppose it covers all areas and it does seem to be shifting the waiting list!

Think we were asked lots of questions about Dd3 as a pre schooler but that was a while ago now.

My DS had the ADOS and I handed in the questionairre and school did one too.
I was told we'd have an interview which could last up to 3 hours.

A few days later Camhs rang and said they had a few specific questions which would take 15 minutes or so. Did it over the phone.

Was told his case was going yo panal next day - then he was given dx.

I think the questionairre but can be different relenting on ADOS iyswim? My DS presented as autistic in ADOS so the questionairre was a tick box exercise. Perhaps where there is bits and bobs not picked up in ADOS - and therefore inconclusive - they need certain information to meet dx criteria?

Of corse I'm speculating - I'd just ring and ask them!
