Dear all,

Just found out today after a weary and lengthy battle that our LEA are actually going to issue the statement that Ben deserves so much!!!!

No doubt it will be full of crap when we receive it (and almost certainly no ABA!) but I at least it one tribunal we wont have to go through!!!

YIPPPEEEEEE!!

RexandBen, have never spoken to you before but I know what a battle this can be - I'm glad for you xx

BlossomHill · 29/05/2004 09:07

Great news RexandBen. I know how much having a statement has helped my dd. Goodluck and I hope the rest of the process goes smoothly!

misdee · 29/05/2004 09:22

i dont know much about your situation, but well done!!

btw whats ABA?

Jimjams · 29/05/2004 09:26

Well done!

Jimjams · 29/05/2004 09:29

BTW RexandBen- we have a review meeting to see if ds1 can stay at his current school in June. If they say no- there is nowhere else (imo) that is suitable for him, so we will ask for ABA. I canot WAIT to see the LEA statementing officer's face (although rather hope it doesn't come to that as I know there will be a long battle and not sure what we would do in between- we'd struggle to fund full time.). Our part time ABA is going well though.

Great new RexandBen

Davros · 29/05/2004 12:30

Excellent news RexandBen, you know there's plenty of help out there but it'll probably be a lot of hard work. Misdee, ABA = Applied Behavioural Analysis. Can't think of the best website to look at but if you go to my son's school's website its got quite a lot of info www.treehouse.org.uk

Eulalia · 29/05/2004 19:49

Great news!

coppertop · 29/05/2004 20:35

Brilliant news Rexandben!

BlossomHill · 29/05/2004 20:47

Davros - Just out of interest looked at your son's school website, looks fantastic!!!

Davros · 31/05/2004 22:01

Blossomhill, thanks. We feel grateful every day that DS got a place there and know how lucky we are, being in the right place at the right time really. I don't know what I was thinking though, thought I should respond to the question about ABA and went blank, the best website would really be www.peach.org.uk
Wasn't showing off, honest!

RexandBen · 01/06/2004 10:48

Thanks so much everyone

Good luck with the review meeting Jimjams. Do you have any idea what they will say? Do they know you are doing part-time ABA?

Davros - whats the position with placements at Treehouse? Is there a massive waiting list? I know you have to live in certain parts of London to get in, can you tell me which boroughs they except.

R&B, they are assessing children NOW for a new class in Sept! I think they take children from many boroughs, depending on whether funding can be secured rather than distance. At the moment I know of kids from Camden, Islington, Barnet, Brent, Tower Hamlets, I think possibly one from Westminster and maybe others. Phone NOW 020 7681 9982 if you're interested and even to get on the waitingn list for next year as I think there will be another class then. Oh, but shut for half term at the moment....

RexandBen · 12/06/2004 19:09

Well I got the proposed statement yesterday. As I suspected it it completely vague and dosent specify a single bloody thing - no ABA and no speech therapy - NOTHING!!!!

looks like we're in for another fight

OP posts:
Jimjams · 12/06/2004 20:04

grrrrr and a big sigh- as if you haven't got enough to do without having to fight for provision at every stage....

coppertop · 12/06/2004 22:48

on your behalf, RexandBen. Why does everything have to be such a bl**dy battle?

RexandBen · 12/06/2004 23:06

I've just found out that a friend has just died of cancer. Its puts my problems into perspective.

She was 28...
