Mixed feelings over OT session!!!

Took Amelia to an OT session yesterday. We managed to get a follow up from when they saw her in August.

The overall opinion is that she is doing great, her fine motor skill have improved and the OT said it was clear how much work I had been doing with her. BUT that's the problem, it is me that has been doing it....and I need the school to be doing it too!!! She is going to right a report and send it in towards our request for statementing so I will just have to see.

It seems sometimes the more you actually do for your child, the less help and support they get....and there was me thinking I mioght get the odd few minutes with her as "just a mum" rather than her therapist!!! Yeah,,,dream on!

One thing that did come out of it was the fact that Amelia still isn't isolating her movements, and her whole body moves rather than just her arms. She also tend to stand up to do activities such as play dough so all her body is used..I suppose she just hasn't the strenght in her hands yet?

The OT didn't think there was any need for any special seating/desk at school but she is looking into getting us a special chair for our use at home. That way we can adjust it to the height she needs to do a variety of activities and she has a foot plate to "ground" her.

Fingers crossed that the report will enhance our request for classroom support and statement!

Good luck with the report and chair.

I know what you mean about wanting to be just a mum and not a therapist.

I bet Fio's secretly a yummy mummy herself.

It wasn't a stokke Fio, it was one of the more substansial ones, not sure of what it is called. It had a metal frame base which was fully hight adjustable so I can sit her in it to brush her hair, as a low table for play, or at the dinner table.... LOL...hopefully it will help her cutlery skills!!!

Are you a secret yummy mummy then Fio.

(CT!

It's it awful when you aren't happy about progress, instead - just worried about it looking too good to get her a statement!!
