There's a thread about this in Primary Education - www.mumsnet.com/Talk/primary/2602414-education-psychologist?msgid=60188979#60188979. A poster called SupplySam has come up with a gem of a post implying that all independent EPs are charlatans, which includes this:

"If you want a report for information for the school, your child has to be referred through the school. If they won't refer, then a referral is probably not necessary."

If only. If anyone cares to post on that thread with their experience of relying on schools to organise EP reports, do join in.

I went looking for other gems from supplysam and found this thread in Education - www.mumsnet.com/Talk/education/2603960-teacher-crisis?msgid=60189128#60189128. It includes another gem:

A lot of SEN equates simply to academic weakness, and is dealt with most effectively as such. Although I recognise the name. I started a thread the other day asking a simple question re Ofsted report and timescale for publication. She may a snippy reply that really didn't have anything to do with what I asked!

Well according to this survey by Guardian education

It looks to me like the majority of teachers are working less than 65 hours a week, rather than the 100 hours per week Supplysam talks about , and there is no mention of demands by parents of SEN children in the list of what is putting the most pressure on teachers!

I wish some teachers would go and work for the minimum wage on a zero hours contract for a year, in say a major supermarket!

IMO, supplysam has swallowed LA propaganda hook, line and sinker! How often do LAs say

"Oh, we don't take any notice of private reports, because parents pay them to say that!"
