Help with DLA please

Hi All
I have just heard from DLA, have been awarded high rate personal care and lower rate mobility. Will I be able to claim carers allowance as well? I do not work but DH does, is carers allowance means tested? Will I get it automatically as we have been awared higher rate personal care, or do I have to apply for it?
I should rally know all this but don't

Pk yes you should be entitled to carers,you wont be granted it automatically,you will need to apply but it is a very simple process and doesnt take long.I dont think your dhs income comes into it as you are claiming it as the carer,i may be wrong but im pretty sure this is the way. You should also contact the txt credit people if you receive any as you will also be entitled to extra tax credits due to having a disabled child,you will be entiteld to a disability premium and a severe disablilty premium as your child has been awared high rate care.HTH

Have just re read your message,i am presuming this dla award was for your child ?? or am i way off and it is for yourself??

yes it is for DS2 who is 6, do you know if they will award the carers allowance from the same date as the DLA or is it from the date that they recieve the claim?

I cant remembe rhow it worked out for me,i think they can backdate the carers up to 3 months so get the forms in ASAP and see what they say about the timescale before
