How do you get dyslexia investigated?

Hi a friend of mine is worried her son who's at primary school has dyslexia. His school has told her she has to do the referral herself at one of the dyslexia charities or privately.

Is this right? Or can an educational psychologist assess dyslexia?

DS is currently being investigated for dyslexia, the school initially did a screening test (Lucid Rapid Test) which doesn't diagnose but does flag up a risk of dyslexia. He's now on the waiting list to be seen by the school educational psychologist for a fuller assessment.
