How do I tell my 11yr old he has ASD?

Four years ago we were told he had "some" indications of ASD and were sent away, he's not had any help since and has been very hard work. He struggles at school as he can't speak up and needs help and is very frustrated at home sometimes.

We had another appointment with a different specialist last week who after half an hour said it was obvious he had ASD and probably ADHD too. She was brilliant and is trying to put things in motion for him to get some help but it will take some time.

We've never told him he has ASD and he gets very very upset if he thinks he is different to his friends in any way. I'm not sure what to tell him but he needs to know as he has another appointment coming up. After the last one he cried because he thought she was saying he was stupid (she wasn't). I don't know what to say to him.

What they said ^^.

Dd3 was nearly 10 when I told her she has Asd, she was actually very relieved to know why she was different and why she found some things harder than her friends.

Be clear and honest with him and good luck Flowers

I'm pondering this to for my 13 year old, I've bought can I tell you about aspergers off amazon but I need to read it this week, then send it yo school before we give it him. If it says aspergers can't do something then he will suddenly stop being able to do that and give a very good reason why, so we all need to be able to diffuse it !
