HFA son and neck bending tic

Hi my son has HFA and for the last month he seems to have developed a tic of neck bending and swallowing. It is definitely more prominent when he is bored, less active and tired and less prominent when he is busy and focused on some thing. He is getting frustrated by it now and says he can't stop it - I try not to mention it but my dh is constantly nagging him to stop. He does get anxious and suffers from irrational and weird fears so I think it is all connected. Does anyone with an autistic child have experience of tics and how to manage them. I am going to get a GP appointment next week just to make sure it isn't anything else. Thanks in advance.
