Hello all,

Just wanted to pass on some info of a special needs group in my children's centre in Derby. Locality 1 and 5, covering Mackworth, Morley, West End, Allestree, Oakwood, Derwent, Chaddesden and Spondon.

It's for babies and children aged 0-5 with additional needs. Don't worry if you're not registered to a Children's Centre already, that can be sorted on your first visit!

This group has been a godsend for me and DS as he can just be himself and everyone else there is in the same boat as you, with a child with additional needs. It's a really lovely, supportive group. Lots of activities, toys, games, messy and sensory play, big outdoor space and singing time at the end! The ladies who run the group have lots of information and advice and can point you in the right direction for help with EHCPs or help filling out a DLA form etc.

It's quite a new group so still trying to get the word out to those who could benefit from it. So if you know anyone who lives in the area with a child with additional needs, let them know! I've added pictures of the flyer for the group. Sorry for the quality, it's a photo copy of an original that was in blue!

We meet all year round. Every Wednesday 9:30-11:00.
I'll be posting this in Derby Local talk, too!

I think a few sure starts run these type of groups. Great idea.

Oh yeah, that's what I meant by our children's centre - it's a Sure Start centre! We had two members of staff from a different locality to our group last week to see how it works because they're going to set up one of their own which is brilliant! This is the only sn group I am currently aware of in my area for my child's age atm and it is a highlight of our week!
