First appointment with community paediatrician

We are having our first appointment this week for DS who is 6.9yo. The letter just says to bring his red book.

Just wondered if anyone had tips /could guide me on what to expect.

He has lots of sensory issues, almost definite dyspraxia (seen an OT already ) and +/- HFA but I'm really not sure about that.

And will they mind that the red book isn't exactly a mine of useful information because he's not my PFB

All appointment letters seem to say that Dd3 is 13 and I never take hers even when they ask for it, I have never been asked for it!

Dd3 is my 3rd and the HV didnt believe that she had any difficulties so failed to write anything useful in her book, hence why I dont take it!!

Dont worry, it will mostly be a history taking session and they may refer for some other assessment eg, speech and language.

I just hope it's useful. And I'm really hoping we can access some OT for him.

Dd3 fell below the threshold for one area of her physical development and it meant the OT kicked in! She doesnt get any actual OT sessions but the OT that is asigned to us is supportive and used to go into school termly to attempt to encourage them to actually do something useful. She will now do home visits while Dd3 isnt in school.

We have about a billion exercises we are supposed to work on!

I'd write a list of your concerns and questions - its easy in the pressure of an appointment and keeping an eye on dc, to forget something really important to you; only to remember it afterwards! Take something he really likes to keep him occupied while you talk.
