Trying to get dual placement for my DD. Part time in a special school and part time in mainstream.

Does anyone's DC have dual placement? Has it worked well for you?

Hi

I really wanted this for DS at the time, but later decided against it.

My LA aren't keen on dual placements anyway. But I thought DS will get confused in dual set-up, both teachers from the school not communicating enough etc. Issues with funding (from the LA side). I just had so many questions regarding a dual placement, that I thought it wouldn't be in his best interests.

I have been told my la don't like this - for all the reasons above.

I'm trying it via paying for extra private nursery, I'm not expecting it to work well, but I want one afternoon where he mixes with nt peers to watch them

Good luck

I turned the idea down for DS1 - 2 lots of environments to be stressed out by.

I know a child who moved from a special secondary to mainstream by this method, varying amount of days from one to the other as the year went on.

Child had attended mainstream primary though.
It was the parents wish that child moved back to mainstream.

I think it's more common for pre school age children.

How old is she, Cows?

DS had 3 days in mainstream and 2 in a specialist unit during yr R and 1.

It didn't work too well.
In the unit they really 'got' him, put great things in place and he behavved and learnt well. On the other 3 days in mainstream he struggled and was often sent home. He just couldnt translae the strategies he was using oin one laceto the other place.

There were lots of promises of the two places working together, sharing strategies etc, but the MS school didn't, or couldn't, put the ideas that worked in the unit into place in the school. I don't kow if it was lack of understanding, resources, or wlingness, but it just didn't work.

He has started y2 in a unit (different one, but v similar) full time, so I hope the consistancy will help him.
