Rant Alert - how long does it take to get ed psych report

I'm sick of the length of time it has taken to get an ed psych report. I have been requesting one for ONE AND A HALF YEARS. Last term the ep came and observed ds and she observed him again for 20 mins (!!) end of September. Still recieved NOTHING. Complained to Senco (very nice lady but seems powerless to assist) and she said this was entirely normal!!!

I think this is just a very cynical move to try and prevent parents applying for statements. I have a written diagnosis and ds's teacher has said he has big problems concentrating for any length of time, transitions, social skills etc etc (diagnosis of AS and ADD). I am really sick of this, its hard enough dealing with ds's problems as it is. Where I work I would type a report up within a few days (if not immediately) once I had the information. Why does is take so long? I would be interested to hear from anyone who has had similar problems. Sorry to go on but this really gets me down.

You as the parents can write to the LEA asking for your son to be assessed with a view to getting a Statement of Special Needs (infact such requests are better coming from the parents rather than say school). You don't need imput from the EP to make an initial request. IPSEA is very good and their website is well worth looking at:-

Do nto forget that ed pysch's are employed by the LEA and are thus working to their agenda.

The system really sucks. You will need to be very persistant with them in order to get answers.

Mkae the request for a stateent yourself, yo don't NEED the ed psyche report, send copies of the diagnosis report and any professional review reports you have along with the formal requets form availiable from you LEA.

Failing that Involve the Inclusion officer - they carry a lot of clout! I did that and EVERYTHING was suddenbly ready and collated AND submitted within 5 days!

My son is now statemented and has a review in 2 weeks...
